On April 1, PULSE Lifesaving (PULSE) announced an applied research collaboration with Mohawk College poised to transform how Canadians receive first aid training. PULSE is an educational technology company and accredited lifesaving and first aid training provider developing innovative new ways to train a workforce remotely using augmented reality. The partnership will accelerate the development of a functional AR prototype, with a planned beta version launch of the AR First Aid Program by Fall 2021. Mohawk will design and develop a prototype for an augmented reality (AR) first aid training program for The Forge client. Designed for use with a specialized AR headset, the program will deliver emergency first aid and CPR-B training using interactive and digital training scenarios, superimposed on a users’ view of the real environment.
The ten-month project is funded by a $60,000 grant from the MITACS Accelerate Program, a research internship program that helps connect companies gain a competitive advantage by accessing high-quality research expertise. The ten-month project is going to provide a high-quality interactive training experience that respects public health guidelines and would support the company develop convenient and economical first aid training for companies based in remote locations.
Founded in 2019, PULSE is a current Business Incubator client of The Forge that completed Startup School and won The Forge’s 2019 Student Startup Competition, a pitch competition that was targeted at McMaster Students and recent alumni with novel and scalable business ideas.
