ToeFX Begins Home Care Trial in Response to COVID-19

June 29, 2020

ToeFX, The Forge alumnus, is a medical device startup that has developed a safe, effective treatment for nail fungus.  In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ToeFX is now offering a home care study, where patients can apply the treatment in the comfort of their homes, supervised by research staff via video conferencing.  “Many patients hide their feet for years or even decades because they are embarrassed,” said Dr. Monika Yazdanian, CEO of ToeFX.  “We want to help these patients, and especially those vulnerable members of the population who need to stay safe and indoors during the pandemic.”

Nail fungus affects some 6-20% of the population, with the figure rising to some 50% of seniors.  If left untreated for prolonged periods of time it can lead to complications including secondary infections.  The ToeFX treatment is based on photodynamic therapy, where the nail is treated with a photosensitizer and exposed to light, killing the infection.
