2016 was a promising year of growth for The Forge and our Hamilton entrepreneurship ecosystem

While we are embarking on a new year filled with exciting new developments and events at The Forge, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate our 2016. The Forge grew from 23 to 40 companies, including five Forge@Mac Student Startup Competition winners. Our Forge companies received over two million dollars of funding, and we have doubled our vibrant community of mentors.

The spotlight shone brightly on our first Forge alumni – QReserve and iUGO Health. QReserve launched their platform at SickKids Hospital and landed their first international paying customer in the Netherlands, while iUGO was acquired by Moseda and publicly listed on the TSX. “It has been a pleasure to watch The Forge grow from a large empty room into a vibrant community,” said QReserve Founder Brandon Aubie.

The past year was also a year of growth for the Hamilton entrepreneurship ecosystem, as it reached promising new milestones as a community that fosters successful technology companies. CBC Hamilton profiled the ‘biggest year in history’ for Hamilton’s burgeoning tech sector that is retaining local talent and attracting companies to Steeltown. “Hamilton and McMaster created an ecosystem that encouraged me to quit a very good job in Toronto and move to Hamilton,” said Cinnos CEO Hussam Haroun.

So here’s to a wonderful 2016, and to all that 2017 has in store for us and the Hamilton entrepreneurship ecosystem!
